B.B.D Bagh - Dalhausi Square - Calcutta
B.B.D Bag is the shot form of “Binay-Badal-Dinesh Bagh”. The plase used to be known as Dalhousie Square and still you will see people referring BBD BAG as Dalhousie. This is a central business location in the heart of Calcutta (Kolkata) and close to “Dharmatala” of course! Binay , Badal and Dinesh all were freedom fighters and known for their courage. On December 8, 1930, they shot the inspector general of prison N.S Simpson. The BBD Bag was named after Lord Dalhousie, the Governor of West Bengal from 1947 to 1956. a

BBD Bagh is still a very busy place specially with numerous banks, Passport Office, Writer’s Building, General Post Office, Movie Halls and more. Lots of cheap foods are available along roadside almost anytime of the day. BBD Bag is very close to Hoogley River, in fact the “Millennium Park” and the “Fairley Launch Ghat” are within walking distance. You should see the large white Cathedral Building to the North from “Lal Dighi”. You have CTC bus stops around Lal Dighi Now. Occationaly you will find people fishing in the lake too. Writer’s Building is just to the lesf of Cathedral Church while the “Lal bazar” famous Kolkata Polica head quarter is to the right of the church while looking from the Lal Dighi. There are two more church worth mentioning - Old Mission church right across from the Dalhousi Bus Terminus and the St. Johns Church. The Telephone Bhaban is also on the other side of Lal Dighi and right across from Writer’s Building. Also remember that we have Governor’s house and Rajbhaban very close too.
