Citizen’s Park in Calcutta (Kolkata) is situated next to Vitoria Memorial in Calcutta and within a walking distance from Rabindra Sadan. Citizen’s Park in Calcutta was opened on 8th May, 2005. defense minister Pranab Mukherjee inagurated the park at Kolkata. The park has large area containing about 11 acres land. The Citizen’s Park was built as an effort of the Calcutta Municipal Corporation to make the city more beautiful by transforming open lands into recreational areas. There are many attactions at the park including a “dancing fountain” that operates every evening. There are long walking trails where you can go for a run or walk during the morning or evening. The park also features an open air gallery selected military hardware, fighter and bomber aircraft, canons, armored vehicles, and tanks. The gallery also features the history of birth of Bangladesh from East Pakistan.
Victoria Memorial is just next to the park and an added attraction to go there. Weekends are good time to go to Citizen’s park with family for a picnic. You can watch some classic movies at Nandan at the evening before coming back to home. Numerous bus services are available to reach Citizen’s Park. If you are traveling in Metro you can get down at Rabindra Sadan Metro station and walk to the Park.
