I am not sure if you all have noticed or not, but I am writing sort of good/interesting contents at out homepage. I went for a small get together the other night and we had a good discussion about sex in Kolkata. I thought I could extend the idea to some extent. I am trying to organize my thoughts...

1. Babu Culture: no truely sex related but it existed in Kolkata and dear Bonkimbabu wrote a lot about it.
2. Sonagachi: Parents tend to avoid the word "Sonagachi" and believe that their children are never aware of the name. They don't think that when they are aware, their childrens are too! These days, sonagachi is used in a song by a very popular singer! and truely Calcutta earn a lot from Sonagachi. I have heard that it is one of the very esteem places of pros.! Well there are more..Hajra...I am not sure how many more! Just add your vital Comment here.
3. The word "SEX" itself: Even when I was young, people hardly ever use "SEX" word in daily conversation. Today, SEX is the Fashion word, SEXY is the faishion term! I like the tranzition but if you are a parent, please discuss if you ever faced any problem with that.
4. Wrong upbringing of children: I consider this one to be the most serious issue in Calcutta! When a yound boy falls in love with a young girl (may be teen age), they start facing problems from their family. Some people beat their childrens, some say "Prem korle porasuno hobe na". We, the parents, constantly brainwash our children against what is "Natural" for a psrticular age. So, when people from most advanced countries get matured by 18, we sometimes take 24-25 years to gain the maturity level we should have had long back.
5. In 2002 there was a study on "Sex Workers" in Kolkata. I am amazed to read that today Sonagachi is not the most prominent center for sex workers. The report says it could be a housewife, a school goer, a collage student...just anybody walking beside you. Most of them chosse "SEX" for quick money. (The study was done by AIDS study group).

Anyways..I am still trying to organize my thoughts.
I will definitely add few comments from the big bengali drama "SEX KROMEY ASITECHE". I watched it full yesterday for the first time because I wanted to see how frustrated the Calcutta Youth are!

Maagi banate 2 min, Magi tulte 3 min -- a famous dialogue from that drama, still girls are a commodity in our loving city CALCUTTA!

Do comment and help me develop the story.

Any outwardly conservative society that suddenly tries to liberate itself always goes to an extreme, and then oscillates a few times before settling down to a mature balanced state.

This is especially applicable to emerging liberal economy-based societies like India and China, though they have a long way to go before coming close to industrialized standards of living and thinking (estimated to be another 140 years in India's case).

The pervasiveness of Bollywood propagated culture, the failure of a huge majority of the subcontinental populace to disassociate that industry's produce from reality, and the fundamental absence of the notion of respect for the individual in socialistic societies, all contribute to diminish the very delicate and sublime beauty of two humans engaging in the most primal and wonderful act.

I remember reading somewhere about a statement from the perhaps the ugliest and most obnoxious product of Bollywood - the moron that goes by the name of Aishwarya Rai - regarding the subcontinent having crossing some "bridge", though she failed to elaborate what "bridge" she was referring to.

The act of copulation has always been around in Kolkata. I have two friends, both still very close, who had had to get abortions done in their early 20's. Nothing has really changed as far as maturity in social behavior is concerned; what has changed is that the distinction of making love and prostitution has blurred.

One of my eye openers during my initial travels westward from home was the complete mismatch with what my impression about what the west was. I vividly remember walking into a grocery, and observing many families shopping for everyday stuff - even some grandparents with their grandchildren fussing for candy - very comforting and familiar sights that stand as an ode to humanity and affections across cultures perceived to be different.

Somehow the emerging economies are failing to make the basic distinction of what is cheap and what is classic.

While Britney Spears is cheap, there are also Sarah Brightmans in the west. The problem with India is that Britney Spears is mistaken for Sarah Brightman, a carefully cultivated indoctrination by Bollywood over multiple generations.
